Insurance Comparison
Done Differently
We built SideBySideInsure because we were tired of "comparison" sites that rank insurers by who pays them the most. Our mission is simple: give you the data you need to make informed decisions.
The Problem with Insurance Comparison Sites
Most insurance comparison websites have a dirty secret: their rankings are for sale. The insurer that appears at the top isn't necessarily the best—they're often just paying the highest affiliate commission.
"Best Auto Insurance of 2025" often means "Insurance Companies That Pay Us the Most in 2025."
This creates a fundamental conflict of interest. When a site earns $50 for sending you to Insurer A but only $10 for Insurer B, guess which one gets the glowing review? Meanwhile, the data that actually matters—complaint ratios, claims satisfaction, financial stability—gets buried or ignored.
Our Approach: Data Over Dollars
We believe you deserve objective information to make one of life's most important financial decisions. Here's how we're different:
We Lead with NAIC Complaint Data
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners tracks every complaint filed against every insurer in America, adjusted for market share. A company with a 0.50 ratio has half the expected complaints. A company with 2.0 has double. This is the single best predictor of how you'll be treated when you file a claim—and it's publicly available data that most comparison sites ignore.
Rankings Aren't For Sale
Yes, we earn affiliate commissions when you click through and purchase a policy. That's how we keep the lights on. But here's what we don't do: we don't let commission rates influence our rankings. USAA has the best complaint ratio, so they're ranked highly—even though they have one of the more restrictive affiliate programs. Lemonade pays well, but their 10.09 complaint ratio means we tell you the truth about them.
We Show You the Ugly Parts
Every insurer has cons. We list them prominently. We tell you about Allstate's documented loyalty penalty. We explain that Progressive's Snapshot tracks your location. We reveal that GEICO's complaint ratio has been trending upward. You can't make a good decision with only half the information.
We Explain the Industry's Games
Insurance companies make $169 billion per year just by investing your premiums before paying claims. They use "price optimization" to charge loyal customers more than new ones. They track your driving, your credit, and your claims history through data brokers you've never heard of. We believe understanding these practices helps you negotiate better and shop smarter.
Resources to Inform Your Choices
Beyond comparisons, we create content designed to help you understand insurance—not just buy it.
Side-by-Side Comparisons
Compare insurers on the metrics that matter: complaint ratios, financial ratings, coverage options, and price. Filter by insurance type and see honest pros and cons.
State-Specific Guides
Insurance varies wildly by state. Our guides cover state minimums, no-fault laws, available carriers, and unique considerations for California, Florida, Texas, Michigan, and more.
High-Risk Driver Resources
SR-22 requirements, DUI insurance, coverage after accidents—we cover the situations that premium carriers won't touch, helping you find coverage when you need it most.
Industry Exposés
The loyalty penalty. Price optimization. Telematics data collection. LexisNexis reports. We dig into the practices the industry doesn't want you to understand.
Claims Guides
What to do after an accident. How to document damage. When to hire a public adjuster. How to appeal a denial. Practical guides for when you actually need your insurance.
Company Deep Dives
Detailed reviews of major insurers—GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, USAA, and more—based on complaint data, financial ratings, and real customer experiences.
Our Commitment to Transparency
How We Make Money
We earn affiliate commissions when you click through to an insurer and purchase a policy. We also may display relevant advertising. We clearly label affiliate links throughout the site. This model allows us to provide free, in-depth comparisons without charging you.
What We Don't Do
We don't accept payment for rankings. We don't hide negative information about high-paying partners. We don't publish "reviews" written by advertisers. We don't manufacture fake testimonials or fabricate data.
Every ranking, every recommendation, and every piece of advice on this site is based on publicly available data and our honest assessment. We recommend insurers we'd use ourselves.
